OSTEOGROW Members Participating in “Researchers’ Night”

November 25, 2013

On the night of September 27, 2013 researchers from the University of Zagreb, School of Medicine (UZSM, OSTEOGROW coordinating institution) hosted a scientific booth called “Little Bone Clinic”, at one of the most beautiful of Zagreb’s city squares Cvjetni trg, where this year’s Researchers’ Night took place.

The scientists informed the numerous visitors about OSTEOGROW research objectives by engaging them in hands-on experiments, interactive learning games and sweepstakes. Over ten thousand visitors attended the event in Zagreb and the OSTEOGROW representatives were exceedingly busy throughout the night.

Mihaela Peric (Research Associate at UZSM) about the event: “We had a wonderful time and it was really a very fulfilling experience. The event itself was exhausting, but the reward of seeing so many children and young people interested in science and in what scientists had to show and explain was exceptional!“

Researchers' Nights are family events dedicated to popular science and fun learning. They are about showing what researchers really do for society in interactive and engaging ways. This can be through hands-on experiments, science shows, learning activities for children, guided visits of research labs, science quizzes and more. It is also an opportunity to increase the interest of young people for professional careers in science.

This year’s Croatian Researchers’ Night took place simultaneously in Zagreb, Split, and Rijeka. In Europe this event is traditionally held every year on the last Friday in September in 300 cities and 35 countries across the continent. The Researchers’ Night event is funded by the European Commission through the “Marie Curie Actions”, as part of the Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (FP7). The Croatian contribution to this event was implemented by the Agency for Mobility and EU Programmes at the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport and its partners in the project: the Universities of Zagreb, Split, and Rijeka, as well as, the Institute of Physics, the Ruder Boskovic Institute and the company znanost.org.
